The Cursed Angels

When I saw the submission call for an Angels & Magic themed boxset I immediately jumped at the chance to be involved. The theme itself conjured up so many different story ideas and excitement. My fingers twitched to start writing.

After being approved, the writing began and at first, I wasn’t sure what I was going to write, but sitting with a cup of tea, characters and ideas began to form. I don’t plan what I’m going to write and instead pick up my pen and start writing. I did the same for this book and the first couple of sentences set up the rest of the book. The Cursed Angels begins with one of my main characters, Clara, talking about her grandma and the visions she has. Clara believes that the magic gene skipped her and instead died with her sister Sarah. That is until she has a vision of her own where she sees two people; one surrounded in light, the other in dark shadows. She rushes to tell her grandma and finds out about the ancient curse and the angel brothers.

Chapter 2 introduces readers to Flynn, one of the cursed angels. I immediately fell in love with his character as I wrote him. He’s genuine, sincere, and very much a lost soul. Flynn was born resembling a dark angel and the curse that was placed on him and his twin brother keeps his light soul hidden. He is an outcast and wants nothing more than to find a way to remove the curse so others will see the real him. His brother Jonathan is truly evil. Born to look like a light angel he enjoys playing the part and causing destruction and despair.

This book is very much a YA novel. Clara is just turning eighteen and Flynn and Jonathan appear eighteen although they have been around for lot longer than this. I love writing YA as there are so many avenues to explore. In this book, we have Clara who feels jealous of her dead sister and the guilt eats at her. We also have Flynn who struggles with outside appearances and wants nothing more than for people to see who he truly is inside. Jonathan is the opposite and wants to keep his truth hidden at all costs.

There’s magic, mystery, mayhem, and lots of danger as the story unfolds and Clara has to come to terms with some family secrets that soon come to light. She soon discovers the reality of having magic and the danger she is placed in.

This book will probably best suit readers who enjoyed Fallen by Lauren Kate and Josephine Angelini’s books. It will also appeal to readers who enjoy magic and first love. You can read The Cursed Angels as part of the Angels & Magic boxset and if you want to learn more about Flynn and Jonathan and how their curse came to be, The Cursed Angels Prequel short story is included in the Angels & Magic Bonus Collection which is now free on all platforms.
